MEET YOUR TEACHER

Hey, I’m Cate! I’m an editorial director, the founder of Ecstatic Voice, and someone who used to answer the question "What do you do?" by saying some version of: "All the things!"

While that felt true at the time (and I had the trunk of creative hats and pile of income forms to prove it), at the heart of it all was a truer and much more specific center: my insatiable enthusiasm for identity-shaping language and the connective power of good conversation.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve guided multifaceted brands of all shapes, sizes, and levels of complexity to share their work through sense-making stories and “this is who we are!” words. And 5 years ago, I began supporting multifaceted people in doing the same.

The motto of our communication studio and voice lab since the beginning has been “Express all that you are.” It’s why this work exists: to celebrate your kaleidoscopic nature by giving you the tools and understanding to speak about yourself in a cohesive and expansive way. One that opens up even more for you—and makes you more of all that you are, not less.

I’ll be teaching you principles and techniques that I’ve not only seen work for many others, but have tested firsthand on myself. As a multifaceted person who runs a multifaceted brand specifically designed to support multifaceted people and brands, this work gets real meta real quick.

I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves with you in the lab.

SOME GOOD QUESTIONS

Why three sessions?

Science! At EV, we like to provide space for your brain to take in new ideas and reframe old ones. We’re deep processors who thrive with integration time, and we’ve designed the curriculum to include it so you can absorb as efficiently as possible.

is there a time commitment between sessions?

Totally up to you! You’ll have plenty to think about and play with between sessions, but there’s no mandatory work if you don’t want it. There’s a good chance you’ll be moved to pull out your hard drive and get cracking on portfolio updates, but we won’t force your hand.

WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A PORTFOLIO TO WORK ON?

Do you have a website or a LinkedIn? Or an upcoming conversation about your body of work? Or an invite to a holiday party where someone might ask you, “So, what have you been up to lately?” What you learn can be directly applied to any and all (and more!).

Will i get one-on-one interaction with cate?

You’ll have a chance to ask questions in the chat, and Cate will do her best to answer them within the hour. But since we’re packing a lot into every session, she’ll keep the Zoom room open for 15 minutes after each one to answer anything that she can’t get to.

what if i'm an introvert?

You're in the right place! (Little known fact: Cate has a strong introvert side.) Rest easy that you won’t be put on the spot or randomly called on. This is a class where Cate will be doing most of the talking while you do a lot of doing. Also, you won’t be assigned any of those challenges like “Talk to 5 people today!” Here at EV, we wholeheartedly believe that you get to decide when, where, how, and with whom you want to share your multifaceted brilliance.

What if i have to miss a session?

No prob! You’ll get a recording via email to watch after each session.

Hold up: Am I actually multifaceted though?

A good gut check! We define being multifaceted as having more than one interest, skill, or job. So if you have two primary interests let’s say, and they seem a little strange or maybe even at odds when you try talking about them together, you’ll benefit from what Cate is teaching in this one. And if you’re not sure, just ask.

lovely feedback from MULTIFACETED humans

Working with Cate has been one of the most clarifying and energizing things I’ve done. I’ve done a lot of brand work previously, but have always ended up with the feeling that I didn’t quite get to the heart of what was missing. EV provided the means to recognize connections I hadn’t made before, integrate things in a way that helped me see the treasures I already have, and plot a path to put them to use. Cate’s skill with metaphor and her ability to identify illuminating language is quite extraordinary. I feel like a plant that didn’t know it needed a drink, and now I’m putting out flowers.

HEATHER MOORE • FOUNDER, SKINNY LAMINX

I can’t sing Cate’s praises enough. If you are at a point in your life where you need help crafting your next direction or even if you just want someone to center you, Cate is your person. She is calming, incredibly intuitive, positive and has this sensational way of wording things and just seeing you. Then taking all that and dialing in what you want: small changes to get there and creative ways to reframe challenges. She’s my favorite blend of human—equal parts interested and interesting. I would highly recommend a session with her if you’re trying to make some moves (big or small)!

meghan mcneer • creative director

It was such a gift to work with Cate. I was ecstatic with the support I received on strategy and content for my business. My goal for our work was to receive help putting the pieces of the puzzle together, and we were able to do that in addition to some new discoveries—pieces I didn't even know were missing! I felt very encouraged and supported, and working together really got me into the integration space. I'm feeling excited for the next step of codifying our work in addition to moving on to the next layer of the onion, weaving the bigger story of the many facets of my work and life.

sarah jutras • founder, huzzah studio

My decison to work with Cate was a true game changer in my professional persona and how I market myself. I often found myself being able to problem-solve for others but not for myself. I came to Cate with many different goals for my career as a creative producer, model, and yoga instructor—and with her knowledge of the diverse industries I’m focused on, she helped coil down and package my various skills and experience. With Cate’s guidance, support and insight, I was able to revamp my portfolio into something that I am proud to continuously use for pitching new clients.
